Eurocom lays claim to Core i7-equipped Clevo D900F
Remember all those Clevo laptops revealed last month? While we’re expecting more information at CeBIT 2009, those crazy Canadians at Eurocom have gone ahead and spilled the beans on the 17-inch D900F. As conjectured, the 11.9-pound behemoth’s packing an equally-mighty Intel Core i7 processor in 2.66, 2.93 and 3.2GHz varieties. It’s also got three 500GB hard drives totaling 1.5TB of space, 8GB DDR3 RAM, an NVIDIA G280 GPU, and a Blu-ray burner. Launch date is May 1, although according to Notebook Reviews we shouldn’t expect to get our hands on it until Q4 2009. No word on pricing, but we suspect this powerhouse is gonna burn a giant hole in our pockets from both the inside and out.
MP3 Mirror has potential, could be so much more
Given that we’ve seen mirror TVs and MP3 players designed to emit sound within one’s shower, we’d say Antonio Lupi’s MP3 Mirror is just one of the gang. In fairness, we do appreciate the sleek design and its reported ability to integrate into any steel frame mirror, but unless we’re badly mistaken, the user is still responsible for adding speakers. Our suggestion? Hook up with Emo Labs and concoct an all-in-one device with sound emission baked right into the shiny stuff
Switched On: With Pre, Palm breaks from the Storm
In a recent interview with Elevation Partners’ Roger McNamee, the Palm investor explained that Palm knew it had to step up its game after RIM launched the BlackBerry Pearl, which he described as “the first real consumer electronics product in the smartphone category.” The Pearl launch served as the coming out party for the BlackBerry brand among consumers as RIM began stepping up its advertising, and the product’s narrower hardware design was a noticeable break with the staid stylings of previous BlackBerry devices.

Oh, bollocks! If one particular spokesman who opened up to ZDnet today is accurate, Philips’ totally sweet 56-inch Cinema 21:9 HDTV won’t ever be sold on American soil. Quite frankly, we’re wondering what’s up with Philips and its apparent disdain for the US market. It farmed out its Blu-ray / DVD and TV operations in North America to Funai, it didn’t even bother showing up in Vegas for CES, and anything even remotely swank that it produces seems to be reserved for those overseas. What happened to the worldwide love, Philips? Did someone give you the impression that Yanks wouldn’t buy one of these completely mesmerizing new panels? Sigh
Lenovo IdeaPad Y530 tested in every way imaginable
Lenovo’s 15.4-inch IdeaPad Y530 has been around the block a time or two, but if you’ve been putting off a buy as you wait for someone to test this puppy out good-fashion, your day has arrived. The benchmarking fiends over at HotHardware have abused (in a good way, of course) the Y530 in pretty much every way possible, even straining the Core 2 Duo CPU and the NVIDIA GeForce 9300M to see how they fared in gaming scenarios. Critics were particularly wowed by the display’s crispness and overall stability of the machine — not once during the gauntlet of tests did this bugger crash or weep under pressure. Of course, serious gamers should probably look elsewhere, but those scouting a do-it-all laptop at a sub-$1,000 price point should definitely dive into the read link below.
